Christmas Star Appeal

Thank you for being someone's star!

Thank you Greater Wellington for getting behind our 2017 Christmas Star Appeal! Your support of this appeal has made a difference both at Christmas and into the New Year.

Because of your support, this Christmas:

  • Over 420 Christmas Star Boxes were filled with food and gifts.
  • Over 270 stars were displayed on our Walk of Fame - a record number!
  • Close to 1,200 Christmas food parcels were delivered to Mission clients and those of other agencies we work with - this is food for more than 3,000 people in total! This is on top of around 350 regular food parcels given our during November and December.
  • Approximately 1,700 children received new gifts.
  • We supported clients of 38 other community agencies we work with throughout Greater Wellington, including Red Cross Refugee Services, Newtown Union Health, Te Waka Whaiora, Lower Hutt Family Centre, Kahungunu Whanau Service and Birthright. This is an increase from the 31 agencies that we supported in 2016.
  • We held three sittings of our Drop-in Centre Christmas Hākari (feast) – the first for volunteers, then two sittings for guests – catering for 100 people in total.
  • More than 100 special Christmas Day Hampers were distributed to Mission clients and other local services that are supporting people throughout Christmas. These hampers include chicken donated by Tegel, sausages from The Mad Butcher, hams from Hellers and special cakes organised by Cake Friday and other local bakers.

You can still donate to The Mission at any time by clicking the 'Donate Now' button above, or by dropping off food and other goods. For more information about ways to help, please head to our Want to Help? page.
