Mayoral Relief

Sometimes life presents unexpected and overwhelming challenges. We may be able to offer access to assistance and support via the Mayoral Relief Fund, which we administer on behalf of the Wellington City Council.

Are you struggling to see a way through an emergency?

We may be able to help.

Administered on behalf of the Wellington City Council, the Mayoral Relief fund is in place to offer assitance to people who are experiencing an emergency. Examples include:

  • power or gas disconnected, with young children living at the property
  • tenancy eviction – emergency accommodation required
  • family or personal crisis
  • unable to buy food as a result of an emergency
  • homelessness as a result of an emergency

To apply for support yourself, use one of the following forms:

Do you know of someone sleeping rough?

We all have a responsibility to look after each other.

If you are concerned about people who are sleeping rough in Wellington, you can call the Wellington City Council on (04) 499 4444 and let them know the location and circumstances of the person you are concerned about.

This information then gets passed along to the Downtown Community Ministry and Wellington City Mission Outreach Team and the local host who will follow up on the person.

In the Hutt Valley you can call (04) 570 6666 and ask to speak to the City Safety Team. Hutt City Council also have a “report it” button where you can log onto their website and log your concern.
