What We Do

Crisis Recovery Café at Whakamaru

A Supportive Place for Someone in Crisis

Operating from within Craig & Gail’s Café at Whakamaru, the Crisis Recovery Café provides a supportive environment for people who are experiencing a crisis, emotional distress, or thoughts of suicide.

Operating from Thursday to Monday, 24 hours a day, the Crisis Café is always staffed.

Those working on site will have lived experience in mental health recovery and can provide care to whānau, offering empathy, understanding, and a sense of community.

It serves as an alternative or complement to traditional mental health services and aims to reduce the burden on clinical emergency services.

Opening Hours

The service will operate 24 hours a day from Thursday at 7am, until Monday at 7am.

The Crisis Café at Whakamaru will offer people in need of support somewhere to go, at times of night when there are few options available to the community.

The service is operational throughout Craig and Gail’s usual operating times, but will also remain accessible after Craig & Gail’s closes and throughout the night, Thursday through to Monday.
