The Wild Game Recovery Trust has launched Game Changer NZ – a nationwide initiative transforming donated wild game into nutritious meals for communities across Aotearoa.

We’re pleased to share that the Wellington City Mission, and specifically our Social Supermarket, has been selected as one of the recipients.

Through Game Changer NZ, hunters, butchers and donors work together to provide high-quality venison to food banks and Social Supermarkets supporting whānau facing food insecurity.

Here’s how it works:

• Wild deer are ethically harvested by volunteer hunters
• Professional butchers process the meat into quality cuts and mince
• The venison is distributed to organisations like the Wellington City Mission to support families needing food assistance

Every $120 donated through our dedicated fundraising page funds the professional processing of one wild deer, turning it into nourishing meat for people in our community. The meat will be stocked in our Social Supermarket and available for shoppers in need of food support.

For many families, protein-rich food like venison is out of reach. This initiative helps provide healthy, sustainable meals while bringing together people from all walks of life to support their community.
