Visit us at Whakamaru

Our community hub for everyone in the Greater Wellington Region

Whakamaru is built for everyone. It is a place where community thrives.

Whakamaru is Wellington City Mission’s community hub – a place where everyone in our region is welcome. It’s where people from all walks of life mix, connect, and support one another.

Whether you’re visiting Craig & Gail’s café for a coffee, accessing practical support, or simply spending time in a safe and friendly environment, Whakamaru offers a sense of community you can feel the moment you walk through the doors.

Our services for the general public include:

  • Craig & Gail’s – our ‘Contribute What You Can’ café
  • Bookable meeting rooms for workplaces and community groups
  • Free showers and laundry facilities
  • Support, conversation, and connection
  • A 24/7 chapel, which is an welcoming space for all people, regardless of faith

There are many ways to experience Whakamaru

What you can do here

Sit alongside someone you may not usually meet, enjoy a meal or coffee, and, if you’re able, pay it forward. Every visit strengthens the spirit of community and generosity that Whakamaru is known for.

Our meeting rooms, including our 20+ seater boardroom, are bookable for workplaces, groups, and organisations. Our rooms are perfect for planning sessions, team days, community projects, or quiet work time. All bookings can be made through our online enquiries form.

Our showers and laundry facilities can be used by anyone, free of charge. The internal facilities are open 9am-3pm, Monday-Saturday. Our external showers are available for use 24/7.

Whakamaru is an open and beautiful whare – a space where you’re always welcome.

Built by Naylor Love, and a winner of the 2025 Wellington Architecture Awards, the ground and first floors of Whakamaru are open to the public.
