Robert first came to our Community Lounge when we were in Newtown. He wanted to be a part of a positive place as he tried to find a new focus in his life.
While with us, he went through the tragic Loafer’s Lodge fire, which impacted him deeply, but he was able to get through it with help from the connections he’d made with our community.
Robert started volunteering at The Mission and continues to this day as a host at Whakamaru. When sharing his story for our latest On a Mission newsletter, he told us:

We all want to feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Stories like Robert’s show that your support really does make a difference, and that you are truly part of something bigger.
As Whakamaru grows into what it can become, we’re going to see some remarkable things happen, because we’re hopeful that what we’re trying to do here will change our communities forever.
